Aarhus saves earthquake-stricken Grand Slam

Aarhus ensures that the International Grand Slam Standard and Grand Slam Latin tournament will be executed in full. This combined tournament had in fact been cancelled in the wake of the earthquake in Japan.

Aarhus is a highly experienced organiser of international dance tournaments, and this experience will certainly be called for when the Aarhus Sport Dance Association – with the support of Sport Aarhus Events under the City of Aarhus and Sport Event Denmark – hold the International Grand Slam Standard and Grand Slam Latin tournament on 8th October at the NRGi Arena.

Tokyo was scheduled to be host venue for this tournament in March, but due to the devastating earthquake that paralysed large areas of the country, the Japanese were forced to cancel the event. The World Dancesport Federation immediately chose Aarhus as the substitute venue, especially because of Aarhus' valuable experience from previous dance tournaments.

The Grand Slam tournament on 8th October will be the fourth event of the year in a series of five for the top international dancers. The tournament holds some excellent world ranking points and is a qualifier for this year's Grand Slam final in Spain in December. Therefore, the tournament in Aarhus on 8th October will have a crucial significance for the top-ranking couples both from Denmark and abroad in the competition to qualify for this year's coveted Grand Slam final.
