Grand Slams in Standard and Latin 2011
That which was not possible in Tokyo, Japan, in the spring of 2011 because of the earthquake, was made possible in the autumn of the same year in Aarhus, Denmark; the hosting of a leg of the World DanceSport Federation's Grand Slam Series, in an event featuring both Latin and Standard.
With the exception of a few couples, all of the world’s top-ranking Latin and Standard dancers were present. Among them, the local Standard dancers Emanuel Valeri and Tania Kehlet. With a clear victory they paved the way for their equally clear victory at the subsequent World Championships in Moscow where they beat the, till then, unparalleled German couple who had twice already been World Champions.
The Grand Slam Latin was won by the number one couple in the world rankings, Zaytsev and Kuzminskaya of Russia. Martino Zanibellato and Michelle Abildtrup underlined their position among the world’s top-ranking dancers with an impressive third place.
